Centre tightens FCRA rules; asks NGOs to declare purpose, operating areas

The Indian government has amended the Foreign Contribution Regulation Act (FCRA) rules, requiring NGOs to specify the exact purpose for receiving foreign funds and the states or Union Territories where they will operate. The changes also introduce stricter eligibility norms for foreign nationals in key functionary roles and mandate a minimum spending limit of ₹10 lakh of foreign contributions over the last two financial years for registration renewal.
